Daniel Montgomery is the Director of Choirs at Copperas Cove High School and is the CCISD Coordinator of Choral Activities. In the Spring of 2011, he graduated from Texas A&M University at Commerce with a Bachelors of Science in Music Education with Vocal Emphasis. He studied choir under Dr. Randy Hooper, Dr. Bonnie Borshay Sneed, and Dr. Chris White. He also studied voice under vocal professors DeeAnn Gorham, Roger Bryant, and Travis McGuire.
Mr. Montgomery has been in choir since the fourth grade and has been involved in church music his entire life. A product of the Garland, TX, ISD choral programs, he was a member of the Garland All-City Boy's Choir (now the Garland Children's Chorus) in the 5th and 6th grades. He auditioned for and made the All-Region Choir in 7th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. Also, in the 12th grade he advanced to the Area Round, but did not advance to the All-State Choir. However, his little sister, a freshman at the time, made the All-State Choir that year, and he's still pretty sore about it.
A graduate of Rowlett High School, he was a member of the varsity choir, A Cappella Choir, for three years. Each year, they made sweepstakes at UIL Contest and Sightreading. He participated in UIL Solo and Ensemble as a soloist every year in high school and took a Superior rating each year, advancing to the State round in his Senior year.
In college, he was a member of the TAMUC Chorale every year. He became bass section leader and eventually choir president. He learned how to be a director under truly gifted musicians and teachers. Every summer, he returns to his Alma Mater with some of his current students to attend the All-State Camp put on by Dr. Randy Hooper to prepare the students for the All-State Process.
"I can't remember a time in my life that I haven't loved being in choir. Choir is family to me. All the competitive success and failures I experienced growing up were second to the love that being in a choral ensemble brings. As a director now, I hope to bring choral success built on the support of a choral family."
In July 2011, he married Stephanie (pictured here) which was, in his words, "The best idea ever."
