COPPERAS COVE – Three recent graduates of Copperas Cove High School have received national academic honors.

Logan Cato, Meagan Hunt and Hayden Peacock, all 2024 graduates of Copperas Cove HS, received Advanced Placement (AP) Scholar awards from the College Board.

Cato was named an AP Scholar, which is awarded to students who receive a 3 or higher on at least three AP exams.

Hunt and Peacock, both of whom finished in the Top 10 of their class rankings with Peacock finishing as Salutatorian, were both named AP Scholar with Distinction, which is granted to students who receive an average score of 3.5 or better on all AP exams taken while achieving a 3 or higher on at least five of these exams.

“The AP Scholar Award is a notable academic recognition presented by the College Board to students who excel on Advanced Placement exams,” CCHS counseling coordinator Melissa Dewald said. “At Copperas Cove High School, achieving this award signifies a student’s commitment, diligence, and dedication to academics.”

Copperas Cove High School has seen students earn AP Scholar awards dating back to at least 1995, including every year since 2020.

In the past five years, 30 CCHS students have been named AP Scholars.

“The AP program is very rigorous,” CCHS principal Carlin Grammer said. “The fact that these students performed at such high levels is admirable. We are very proud of their efforts and can't wait to see what they accomplish after high school.”

Copperas Cove ISD now offers five pathways toward college credit for high school students. In addition to Advanced Placement, CCISD has partnerships with four colleges for Dual Credit coursework: Central Texas College, McMurry University and new agreements with Tarleton State University and Ranger College as of the 2024-25 school year.
